According to the information, which came from the representatives of the Italian auto group Maserati, the company plans to produce an all-new electric sports car Alfieri by 2020. The electric car will be driven by an electric power plant. This data were announced by the company's chief executive of engineering - Roberto Fedeli.
The appearance of the new product is expected in three years or so. Presumably the electrical versions of the Porsche 911 and the Jaguar F-Type will be the main competitors. Maserati Alfieri will be the first model of the brand, built on a whole new platform, allowing to use both a classical internal combustion engine and electric motors. Also, the experts point out that this model will be a worthy adversary to the Tesla brand. This is reported by authoritative foreign publications.
It is known that the sports car with an electric motor is based on the Ghibli and Quattroporte models. The standard gasoline version, which will appear, presumably, a year before its electric counterpart, will be equipped with a 6-cylinder engine of 3.0 L, and it is expected that the engine output will be over 500 horsepower.
It bears reminding that a conceptual model of the Maserati Alfieri electric car was presented at the Motor Show in Geneva in 2014. The car was equipped with a V8 engine. The assembly of production version of this model was supposed to be started in 2016, however, Maserati decided to switch to a motor V6 due to restrictions on the emissions.
