The European aircraft manufacturer Airbus has recently presented its secret flying car named “Vahana” – one-seater vehicle with vertical-attitude takeoff and landing. The concept of the vehicle resembles a tilt-rotor aircraft: it has 8 small tilting rotors on two pairs of wings.
It is expected that this project will be used as a city air taxi, but it is not inconceivable that the new product will be sold to the individuals.
Based upon the description, the aeromobile is meant to be a fully autonomous vehicle. Airbus says that a full-sized prototype will be presented in 2017, and a demonstrator will be in 2020. Of course, the appearance of such enginery would require a complete rethink of many laws, in particular in Europe and the United States, where the use of airspace is strictly regulated.
Although the Airbus doesn’t specify release date of the novelty to the market, but the engineers are already thinking about the safety of passengers. For this purpose the ballistic parachute will be provided in Vahana.
